The courses
Specialist tutors have been chosen for their considerable expertise and ability, not only as practising crafts people but especially for their teaching expertise. Instruction will normally take place during the mornings and afternoons with breaks for lunch and refreshments. Students will be able to continue with their own work during the evenings if they wish.
It is appreciated that some students may want to bring a companion who does not wish to participate in the course. This may be possible and enquiries are welcome. On rare occasions, in order to maintain the numbers of students on the course it may be necessary to offer some applicants accommodation nearby.

For all courses guests are asked to arrive on the start date after 6pm but in time for the evening meal at 7pm. There will be an introductory session in the studio after the meal. The workshop finishes at 4pm on the last day with tea and cake.
The Studio
The excellent 22 x 18 ft (6.7 x 5.5 m) studio is comfortable for eight to ten people with a tutor, and has been featured in an article in "Popular Patchwork". There are work surfaces on two and a half sides of the room with eight double power sockets positioned above the work surfaces.
The studio is centrally heated and has outstanding lighting from the ceiling as well as the surrounding walls. When moved together the four tables make a 6 x 10 ft surface, large enough to lay out a quilt top. Quilt tops may also be laid out on the hall and landing floors. Rails are positioned around the room in order to hang blocks or pin fabrics.
The studio is also available for hire by groups wishing to organise their own activity breaks, for example painting, sketching, embroidery, silk painting.
Equipment available in the studio includes:
- Two ironing boards with irons.
- Flip chart.
- Overhead projector.
- Video and a music centre (do bring your own tapes and CDs).
Please Note that St. Mark’s is a No Smoking house.
To assist preserving the pine floors at St. Mark’s it would be appreciated if stiletto heels were not worn.
